19 Unified School Districts
The Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center (NKESC) serves several communities in Northwest Kansas including 19 unified school districts. NKESC serves a student base of more than 6,700 students and 900 teachers. The Service Center employs approximately 285 certified and non-certified staff. The geographic area of NKESC encompasses 13 counties covering over 12,000 square miles.
The Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center was formed in 1973, the first service center in the state of Kansas. NKESC is governed by a board of directors made up of one board member from each district. Direction is also provided by a Superintendents' Advisory Council.
