2008 Extended School Year Information

As we announced at the MIS trainings for certified staff, NKESC
is moving up the timelines for Extended School Year in an effort to
streamline the process as much as possible. The timeline of events
is listed below. It is important to note that while applications
for both certified staff and classified staff will be available on
the website as of December 19th, certified staff will be hired in
February, while the hiring of classified staff will take place in
April. Due to the early timelines it is perfectly acceptable to
submit an application for ESY even if you are still unsure about
your summer plans. Applications will be accepted until all
positions are filled. Currently, applications cannot be submitted
online. Individuals who want to submit an application will need to
print it off the website and submit it in paper form to Phyllis
Thornton here at NKESC. It is the hope of NKESC that the early
timelines will allow us to provide timely feedback to staff in
regards to available positions and create a smoother transition
into ESY at the end of the regular school year. An initial meeting
of certified staff will take place in conjunction with the NKESC
inservice on February 18th. We are working on plans to offer the
meeting over ITV or through KAN-ED to district staff hired for ESY
who cannot physically attend the meeting at Oakley. Verification of
the students requiring ESY services will begin in February. Feel

Timeline for 2008 Extended School Year Services
December 19 Extended School Year applications for employment
available on the NKESC website
February 8 First draft of the ESY student list will be compiled
February 10 Verification of the ESY student list will be
conducted
February 11 Hiring of ESY certified staff will begin
February 18 Initial meeting for certified ESY providers will be
held
March 30 Certified staff reports due on para staffing and
transportation needs
April 1 Hiring of ESY classified staff will begin
May 1 All hiring and staff schedules completed (We hope)
