START   for children under 3 years of age in Northwest Kansas


Q: Why is early intervention so important?   A: Research demonstrates that a significant amount of learning takes place before the age of three.

Q: What is the S.I.E.L.?   A: A developmental check list desired for children in the birth - 3 year age range.

Q: What is HAP?   A: A HAP is an individualized home activity packet (HAP) to enhance learning.

Q: Why are we offering S.I.E.L. assessments to you and your infant/toddler?   A: To help parents maximize their child's learning opportunity during early months of life.

Q: Who will generate the HAP?   A: The B.R.I.T.E.Start program will provide individual families with the HAPs.

Q: Who will do the S.I.E.L. assessment?  A: A trained S.I.E.L. tester who works for the Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center (NKESC).

Q: Where will the S.I.E.L. be done?   A: The S.I.E.L. is given at the Early Childhood Screenings offered by your school district annually or in an environment selected by the parents and the tester.

Q: How will the appointments be made?   A: Parents may contact the NKESC Early Childhood department.

Q: How much will it cost?   A: There is no charge to parents due to school district funding.

Q: How long will it take?   A: Approximately 60 minutes will be needed.

Q: Who can benefit from B.R.I.T.E.Start?   A: Project B.R.I.T.E.Start is for any child who is between birth and 3 years of age.
