The Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center (NKESC) was established in 1973 to provide specialized educational services and support to school districts across northwest Kansas. Today, NKESC serves 18 school districts spanning 11 counties and covering approximately 10,729 square miles.
Originally headquartered in Colby, Kansas, NKESC relocated to its current facility in Oakley in October 1990. Since that time, the organization has continued to expand its programs and services to meet the evolving needs of students, educators, and communities throughout the region.
NKESC provides special education and related support services to participating districts on a "buy-in" basis, allowing districts to access specialized expertise and resources tailored to their needs. Available services include:
Adaptive Physical Education, Audiology Services, Behavior Disorder Consultation, Center-Based Educational Services, Gifted Education Facilitation, Hearing Impaired Consulting Services, Homebound and Hospital Instruction, Infant and Toddler Early Intervention Services, Occupational Therapy, Orientation and Mobility Services, Physical Therapy, School Psychology Services, Speech-Language Pathology, Vision Impaired Specialist Services, Vocational Evaluation and Counseling
